The banana; or banana (term used in Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and the Dominican Republic), although it is also called guineo in Panama, El Salvador, Colombia, Puerto Rico and Continental Ecuador and Cambur in Venezuela (except for the largest variety known as the male banana that is known as banana in this country), is the fruit of several species of the genus Musa. It takes between 80 and 180 days to fully develop. Under ideal conditions, all female flowers bear fruit, adopting a dactiliform appearance that leads to the designation of the rows in which they are arranged.

There can be between 5 and 20 hands per cluster, usually it is partially truncated to prevent the development of imperfect fruits and prevent the terminal bud from consuming the plant's energy. The cut-off point is normally fixed in the "false hand", one in which dwarf fruits appear. In total it can produce about 300 to 450 fruits per bunch, weighing more than 50 kg.
